Recently, the mid-term meeting of the key project "Early Identification and Dynamic Risk Early Warning System of Sepsis Multiple Organ Dysfunction" of the "14th Five-Year Plan" was held in Peking Union Medical College Hospital. Du Bin, vice president of Peking Union Medical College Hospital; Wengli, director of the internal medicine ICU of Peking Union Medical College Hospital; Zhao Kai, researcher of the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University; Gao Jiandong, assistant researcher of the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University; Xie Jianfeng, assistant director of the Critical Medicine Department of the Central University Affiliated Hospital of Southeast University; Ma Xiaochun, director of the Critical Medicine Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University; Sun Yini, associate professor of the Critical Medicine Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University; Shi Wenzhao, chairman and CEO of DHC Department; Experts such as Xu Juan, Vice President of DHC Treatment and Executive Vice President of the Research Institute, and representatives of participating units attended the meeting and held in-depth discussions on issues such as the achievement of mid-term assessment targets, major research results generated, and implementation plans for the next phase.
The "National Key Research and Development Plan" of the Ministry of Science and Technology is currently one of the most influential and highest-level scientific research plans in China. The "14th Five-Year Plan" national key research and development plan "research on prevention and treatment of common and frequently-occurring diseases" key project "research on early recognition and dynamic risk early warning system of sepsis multi-organ dysfunction" is a national scientific research project led by Peking Union Medical College Hospital and jointly established by the national high-quality medical research team specializing in critical illness, top colleges and universities, head enterprises, etc. The project aims to establish the first standardized clinical and biological information platform for sepsis with multi-center and large sample size in China, construct a clinical phenotype group for sepsis that is consistent with the population in China, form a research brand in the critical illness field with the characteristics of China, and generate international influence.
At the beginning of the meeting, Du Bin, vice president of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, delivered a welcoming speech and introduced the implementation of the project and future planning. Since the start of the project, each unit has conducted in-depth research on sepsis-specific disease database, feature extraction, biomarker screening, early warning, and early diagnosis, and on the basis of achieving the original research objectives, further solutions to the above problems have been explored and certain milestones have been achieved. At the same time, Du Bin also elaborated the goals and prospects for the next phase, expecting that the project would help promote the high-quality development of clinical and scientific research on sepsis in China, and achieve homogenization of the early diagnosis and treatment level of sepsis, so as to benefit the patients.
Then, aiming at the 6 topics involved in this project, Wengli, director of the internal medicine ICU of Peking Union Medical College Hospital; Zhao Kai, a researcher at the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University; Gao Jiandong, an assistant researcher at the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University; Xie Jianfeng, an assistant director of the Department of Critical Medicine of the Central University Affiliated to Southeast University; Sun Yini, an associate professor of the Department of Critical Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University; As the representatives of each undertaking unit, Xu Juan, Vice President of DHC Research Institute and Executive Vice President of DHC Research Institute, successively reported the results on "Construction of Clinical Phenotype of Sepsis in China Population", "Screening of Novel Biomarkers for Sepsis", "Construction of Intelligent Early Warning Model for Sepsis Organ Dysfunction", "Construction of Multi-dimensional and Low-latency Early Warning and Prevention System for Sepsis Respiratory Dysfunction", "Early Warning and Diagnosis Strategy for Sepsis-related Coagulation Disease Based on Clinical Phenotype", and "Construction of Sepsis Big Data Platform and Demonstration Application of Remote Decision Support Based on Internet of Things".
DHC is the lead unit of Project 6, "Construction of sepsis big data platform and demonstration application of remote decision support based on Internet of Things", and the participating units of Project 1, "Construction of clinical phenotype group of sepsis in China population" and Project 2, "Screening of new biomarkers of sepsis". As the project leader, Xu Juanjie, Vice President of DHC and Executive Vice President of the Research Institute, introduced the accumulated technologies in medical big data, artificial intelligence and medical term standardization that DHC has made full use of, including building a sepsis big data platform based on OMOP general data model, building a sepsis standard term set, developing term mapping aids, building multi-center platforms and successfully applying them in many hospitals. These technologies and applications will provide important support for future verification and evaluation of sepsis intelligent early warning system, and DHC will continue to promote high-level clinical research with high-quality medical data governance.
Finally, the experts carried out an in-depth discussion around the implementation of the project and future planning. At present, the overall progress of the project is smooth and significant, laying a solid foundation for the high-quality completion of the "Study on Early Identification and Dynamic Risk Early Warning System of Sepsis Multiple Organ Dysfunction". In the next phase, under the leadership of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, all participating units will actively exert their respective advantages, jointly promote the scientific prevention and treatment of sepsis and the improvement of scientific research level, reduce the mortality rate and medical expenses of sepsis patients in China, and facilitate the smooth implementation of the "Healthy China" strategy.
